Oslo Urban Area
Alliance arkitekter has collaborated with the property developer HAV Eiendom in developing Havnelagerkvartalet (Fiskebrygga), a site located near the former harbor area. Later it was a part of the highway that ran through this part of town. For the past 10 years it’s been an open space used for parking. Our goal has been to achieve an urban link between Kvadraturen (oldtown) and Bjørvika (newtown). The building proposal comprises 22 000 sqm, mainly office space over a public accessible first floor. The structure can contain a few large companies, or a range of smaller tenants.
The architecture stands as a contrast but also as a mediator between different historical areas. The first floor inside and outside in the whole quarter will be filled by public space. Fiskebrygga will offer the City of Oslo a new square and a new venue for eating and shopping.
The main through fare, Rådhusgata, reaches from the City Hall through Kvadraturen and all the way to Bjørvika. Fiskebrygga will make it easier to grasp how close the old town actually is to the seafront. Skippergata is a street that runs from the square right in front of Oslo Central Station and out to Vippetangen, a land tongue that reaches out into the Oslofjord. This street has great potential for further urbanization, and is capable of connecting different parts of the city. Fiskebrygga will be a generator in this positive transformation. Fiskebrygga has entered the political stage in the process. By the end of 2016 there will be a final decision on the building scope. Local authorities have even made an alternative proposal, slightly larger, and with an additional, approximately 7 000 sqm for housing.
